Author: Joan Gomez
Published: Hunter House (2000)
Joan Gomez is a psychiatrist who has written four other
books on coping with a variety of illnesses. However, the
book doesn't really have a "mental" focus. Instead, it
provides basic medical information, then focuses more on
diet and lifestyle issues. It doesn't just tell you what to
do, it tells you why and how to do it. For example, the
"Eating Well" chapter provides information on which foods
are the best sources of the important vitamins and minerals,
and what your immune system needs to work best. Members are
likely to find this, and the other dietary information, very
interesting and useful. There is also a separate chapter for
the over 60s. Other topics covered include practical advice
for surgery, medical treatment options, and children and
adolescents.
There are lots of case studies in each chapter to
demonstrate key points. Overall, it is a very "friendly"
book - easy to read, easy to get information from, and easy
to apply to your individual needs.
